Happy Feats, Founder, CJ Jimenez
My family and I were blessed with our own little special angel. My nephew spent 4 years of his life in and out of the hospital facing numerous medical challenges. It was his bright smile, his courageous fight, and his strength that encouraged me to give back to other families that were also facing difficult times. I was truly inspired by the overwhelming love and support from my brother and sister-in-law who continue to remind us of this special soul that came into our lives for a reason. Shortly after his passing in 2006, I began volunteering for the Make A Wish foundation, Special Olympics events, and spent my free time walking to raise money for various causes and meeting so many other inspirational children. In 2010, I spoke to Jenn about my idea that I’ve had all these years, that would bring joy to children and give hope to families who spend endless hours in local hospitals. Through her experiences with her studies to become a Child Life Specialist, we incorporated both of our ideas and created “Happy Feats.” Although my nephews time here on Earth was short, he left his little footprints in my heart forever. In Loving Memory: A Child that taught us many things. But most of all “Real Love” (Jacob Ryan 2002 ~ 2006).

My inspiration comes from the many little faces I have seen or come to know in various Children’s Hospitals. During one of my experiences, I met a two year old boy who was thrilled to be going to the playroom with me, so when the nurse looked for the boys socks that he needed to leave his room, we were surprised that he was admitted without any. It turns out this boy did not have anything that belonged to him, let alone socks for his little feet. The nurse went out and found him the general pair that the hospital carried, but they did not fit. She had no choice but to tape them to his ankles and this boy happily walked off, not bothered at all because he couldn’t wait to play. Little does this boy know that he changed me forever in that moment. I went home and thought to myself about what I had witnessed. This boy displayed true happiness in the moment during a time of difficulty. CJ and I realized that Happy Feats had to be created for the children like this boy and so many more that come into the hospital with nothing more than a smile, and challenges to overcome. Happy Feats is an extension to my future as a Child Life Specialist and in giving each pair, little toes are once again warm and happy.
